I’m back at it…this time direct from the homeland…Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I’m actually here now with my family and what I affectionately call “Team Villanueva” for a special NBA event – Basketball Without Borders (more on this in my next post). We arrived yesterday, here for about a week or so, and last night, I got a chance to break bread with my two older brothers, Rob C & Rob E, plus my good friend, Burton Chawla.
They’re the team behind the success of “Crossroads” and the company Tivity Social Creative Agency, which handles all my online branding stuff. We went out to dinner and were reminiscing on the last year (so much can happen in a year) and some of the moments we captured while shooting “Crossroads”. The goal was to pull the curtains back a little on the my free agency journey and show my own perspective on what I went through last Summer to get my job with the Mavericks. All the good laughs and great conversation we shared last night had me thinking about a video clip (Director’s Cut) that we recorded a while back at the Tivity Social office in Fort Lauderdale. I put some pressured on the team today to finalize that video so I can share with you guys. Finally, they got me something late tonight.
A little over a year ago, I launched my Sportsblog site and I have to say, I am really happy I did it! This blogging process has been a great experience for me both personally and professionally. Not going to lie…the whole process, the documenting that went on during “Crossroads” was stressful at times but still fun. I think we made a good product…especially considering the whole thing was shot on Samsung Galaxy camera phones with NO budget and we still got nominated for a few industry awards. That’s pretty impressive.
I am proud of the product, wanted to show the fans something new…new content and I am glad it was as real as we could make it. There were some moments like certain conversations and workouts we shot that were obviously sensitive (which I had to keep between my agent and myself) but overall I think we did a good job giving the fans something new and fresh.
Below you’ll see a video of the producers and really the creators of “Crossroads”–Rob C., Rob E., Burton and myself–talking about how this project came together. We were literally in Queens just hanging out, about 2-3 months prior to the July 1st free agency period, when we came up with the whole concept and essentially the name. Actually, I think Burton was the one who came up with the name, which was the perfect fit at the time. So check out the video, comment, ask me questions and I will definitely get back to as many of you as I can…
And sorry for the late night post. They got me busy here in La Republica. Stay tuned for more.
